Success!

We had a wonderful trip to Tanzania, thanks in large part to your support for our work. We learned a lot about Swahili culture and sustainable development and feel confident that TeV is doing good work for the Tanga and Kiomoni communities. Thank you again!

Ready to Go!

We have successfully raised enough money to travel to Tanzania this summer. Thank you for all of your support and if you didn't get a chance to give, but wanted to, it's not too late! We will put any remaining donations to good use while we travel and get to know the country. We depart on July 6th and will return on the 22nd. Check back for pictures and news of our trip in late July.

Wine and Music Fund Raiser

We had another successful fundraiser tonight, where we enjoyed music by CRLS's own Bobby Tynes and Tracy Rose, enjoyed delicious appetizers, sipped fine South African wines, and most importantly heard from a Tanzanian doctor about the health situation in the country and from the students themselves about why they want to go to Tanzania and what they will do once they arrive. Thank you to all those who came and donated--we made $2400 with your help.

Silent Auction and Pub Night!

During the week of March 17th we held a Silent Auction at Cambridge Rindge and Latin for faculty members. Over a dozen Cambridge area businesses donated prizes for our event. Our Silent Auction concluded at Atwood's Tavern during a wonderful evening of music and fun on Thursday, March 20th, where friends and faculty gathered to raise additional funds for the Tanzania trip. We made over $2,000 thanks to the generosity of friends and family members. Thank you to all those who helped and thank you to Ian Goldstein and his band members for the fantastic music!

Getting Started

We are junior and senior students at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Eight of us are hoping to travel to Tanzania in the summer of 2008 for two weeks to work with the community of Kiomoni.

We are excited to travel to Tanzania with the express purpose of learning about the inspiring work of Tanzania ecoVolunteerism, an organization started by a man who wanted to rehabilitate his community through sustainable changes in the land, education, and health services.

We come from diverse backgrounds and are motivated to make change. By working with the the community of Kiomoni, Tanzania, we hope to support an organization seeking to make changes at the grass roots.
To do this we will need to raise enough money so that we can all travel, regardless of our individual financial situations. Please see the costs and time involved in our travel and fund raising plans below.

Costs:
Per person -- approx. $175/day including airfare
Total amount we need to raise -- $20,000

Please consider sponsoring us to travel to Tanzania! If you would like to help us travel to Tanzania, which ultimately helps the community of Kiomoni, please make checks out to "Cambridge Rindge and Latin" and send them to the school c/o Rachel Otty or Brian Kwoba at 459 Broadway, Cambridge MA, 02138.
